Fortitude Foundation Partners with AARP for Shredding Event

On November 11, 2022, residents of Montgomery came together for a Free Shred-A-Thon at Eastdale Mall. The community event focused on helping families safely dispose of sensitive documents while promoting financial security and personal privacy. Hosted by the Fortitude Foundation in partnership with AARP, the event provided free, on-site document shredding for individuals and families across the area.

Hosting a free shredding event is critical to local families’ social and economic well-being. Just as locking the front door at night protects a household, securely shredding personal documents is an essential step in safeguarding one’s family. Participants were encouraged to bring old paperwork containing personal or financial information, ensuring it was destroyed securely and responsibly.

The event highlighted the importance of shredding as a proactive way to protect credit, privacy, and sensitive data. By eliminating the risk of discarded documents falling into the wrong hands, shredding helps prevent identity theft and financial fraud—threats that can have long-lasting consequences and potentially cost individuals their livelihoods.

Through this partnership, Fortitude Foundation and AARP reinforced their shared commitment to community education, prevention, and empowerment, providing a practical service that helps residents take control of their personal security and financial futures.
